Crabs, Sharks and Sea Turtles...Oh My!

Undersea Happiness...
My art desk is littered with scraps of paper, empty water glasses, nine pair of scissors and a few dead mosquitoes. Oh, and twelve little 4" X 4" paper mosaics of crabs, fish, sharks and sea turtles, none of them totally finished.

I got a commission from Over The Moon gallery/gift shop in Ocracoke, NC to place 14 small paper mosaics and one larger one in their shop for sale, and they're due in March. Of course, I also have one art festival in March, and three in April, so inventory has to be high.

These are the times I wish I could hit "print" and have them miraculously com
e out of the Epson, completely done and glowing like a newborn pup.

But, alas (haven't you always wanted to use the word, "alas" in a sentence?) that is not the case. I'm starting to feel the pressure, having taken off two glorious days catching up on sleep, shopping and sitting with my dogs, who bark at me when I come in their room to let them out in the morning because they sincerely have no idea who I am anymore.

My husband, ever the naysayer (another one of those charmed words never used anymore), states without malice that I will never in a million years be able to have enough work done. And me, ever the optimist, says bring it on.

So, early mornings start today, at 2 a.m., and I have a goal of five pieces a day without fail. My days start at 5 a.m. anyway, so I figure the extra three hours will be golden for completing this hefty deadline for productivity.

As of right now, I'm sadly in arrears. I let other things take precedent this morning, so now I'm just tired and cranky and without any work done.

So, off this contraption of worldwide communication I go, off into the la-la-land of concentration and paper-snipping and banal television noise so that I can complete some canvas creations to bolster up my lacking inventory. I still have to get some bike riding in, and there is a glorious sunset predicted for tonight, so factor all that in and I have to really get cracking.

Off I go until next week...keep the light on for me.
